United States Sanctions Five Malian Individuals

Michael R. Pompeo, Secretary of State

Today, the United States sanctioned five Malian individuals pursuant to Executive Order (E.O.) 13882 and in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2484 (2019).  This action targets individuals threatening the peace, security, and stability in Mali, as well as an individual obstructing humanitarian assistance.

This action demonstrates sustained U.S. commitment to the Algiers Accord to promote greater peace and security in Mali and the wider Sahel region.  If fully implemented, the Accord’s provisions, including decentralization, greater self-government, security sector reform, and development, would make a substantial contribution to stabilizing Mali and the Sahel.

The United States will continue to work with signatory parties and our international partners to ensure that the people of Mali benefit from the promises made in the Accord.
