Office of the Spokesperson

The United States and Japan held a bilateral policy planning conference on November 15 in Washington D.C. co-chaired by U.S. Department of State Policy Planning Director Peter Berkowitz and Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director-General for Foreign Policy Shigeo Yamada.  The delegations discussed the importance of a free and open Indo-Pacific, identified areas of strategic cooperation, and addressed long-range planning challenges and opportunities. The productive conference is part of a continual dialogue between the two governments and is indicative of the depth and breadth of the bilateral relationship.
