Under Secretary Hale conducted a High-Level Meeting with Caribbean foreign ministers in New York yesterday. The meeting reaffirmed U.S. commitment to enhancing cooperation and strengthening our partnership with our Caribbean neighbors under the U.S.-Caribbean 2020 strategy, including promoting prosperity, security, health, education, and energy throughout the region. Under Secretary Hale announced a new $25 million loan guarantee under the Caribbean Energy Security Initiative to spur private sector investment in non-oil energy projects. Additional notable highlights included preparations for the first U.S.-Caribbean Resilience Partnership Working Group meeting to implement disaster preparedness and resilience initiatives, and a continued focus on regional security cooperation under the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative.
