Successful Maritime and Aviation Security Working Group Concludes in Bahrain

Office of the Spokesperson

On October 21–22, the United States, Poland, and Bahrain co-hosted the Working Group on Maritime and Aviation Security in Manama, Bahrain. Thirty countries attended the working group, which focused on promoting maritime and aviation security in the region by emphasizing steps states can take to interdict and prevent illicit weapons of mass destruction (WMD)-related shipments.

At the meeting, Bahrain announced its intention to host the first-ever regional training Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) event in 2020. The working group emphasized the importance of ensuring that the PSI remains active, strong, and successful. The United States and Poland welcome the opportunity to partner further with Bahrain to promote peace and security in the Middle East.

The next Warsaw Process working group will focus on energy security and meet October 24 in Warsaw, Poland. Working groups on cybersecurity and human rights met earlier this month in Seoul, Republic of Korea and the United States, respectively.
