Michael R. Pompeo, Secretary of State
On behalf of the government of the United States and the American people, I congratulate the people of Sint Maarten on Sint Maarten Day.
The commercial, educational, and cultural ties between our two countries are strong and growing. As we work together through the U.S.-Caribbean Resilience Partnership, we are building regional capacity for effective disaster response and promoting economic resilience. Many young people from Sint Maarten study in the United States and then return to contribute to the island’s development. Our joint law enforcement efforts continue to intercept drug traffickers and disrupt their operations. The United States is grateful for the cooperation of the Sint Maarten government during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic in assisting with the repatriation of hundreds of U.S. citizens, and for the hospitality of the island’s people in allowing travel to resume again safely.
We look forward to the opportunities ahead in working together. Happy Sint Maarten Day.
