Secretary Pompeo’s Meeting With Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita

‎Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo met with Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita today in Rabat.  Secretary Pompeo and Foreign Minister Bourita underlined the strong, enduring nature of the U.S.-Morocco partnerhip.


The two leaders discussed opportunities to strengthen trade and investment ties between the United States and Morocco, building on the Free Trade Agreement which has increased trade between the two countries five-fold since 2006.  The Secretary also expressed his interest in advancing United Nations-led efforts to find a peaceful, sustainable, and mutually acceptable political solution to the long-standing dispute over the Western Sahara.  The Secretary thanked the people of Morocco for their efforts in the shared fight against terrorism and affirmed the role Morocco plays in promoting regional stability and preventing violent extremism.
