Prasar Bharti Former Chief Executive Officer Jawhar Sircar was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from West Bengal.
BJP decided not to contest for the seat. The certificate was handed over to Mr. Sircar after completion of the scheduled period for withdrawal of candidature in Kolkata.
Being an Indian Administrative Service Officer, Mr. Sircar also served as Secretary to the Government of India in different portfolios.
He was nominated for Rajya Sabha by Trinamool Congress after a seat vacated by the erstwhile member Trivedi.
