On September 3, Deputy Secretary of State John J. Sullivan, Advisor to the President Ivanka Trump, Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) Acting President David Bohigian, and Department of Defense Deputy Chief Management Officer Lisa Hershman attended a dinner in Bogota, Colombia, hosted by Colombian President Ivan Duque.  The discussion focused on the importance of deepening our already strong bilateral relationship, strengthening democratic institutions in the region, continuing collaboration on counter-narcotics efforts, and promoting economic advancement.

The U.S. and Colombian delegations also discussed the importance of identifying new and creative ways to better integrate women across Colombia’s formal economy and promote growth and development, especially in rural areas.

Deputy Secretary Sullivan and Advisor Trump welcomed President Duque’s announcement of a Presidential communique focused on the steps the Colombian Government will take to increase opportunities for women to be fully integrated into the economy and thanked him and for committing to the goals of the United States’ Women’s Global Development and Prosperity (W-GDP) Initiative.
