The Third U.S.-Qatar Counterterrorism Dialogue took place at the U.S. Department of State on November 12, 2019.


Ambassador Nathan A. Sales, Coordinator for Counterterrorism at the U.S. Department of State, led the U.S. delegation, which consisted of experts from the Department of the Treasury, Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, and the intelligence community. Major General A-Aziz Abdulla E Al-Ansari, Chairman of the National Counter-Terrorism Committee, led the Qatari delegation, which included experts from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, State Security, Supreme Committee for Legacy and Delivery, the Qatar Central Bank and Qatar Financial Intelligence Unit, Public Prosecution, and Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities.


The Dialogue comprised four sessions and included discussions on regional threats and international partnerships, Anti-Money Laundering/Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) laws, sanctions compliance, information sharing and aviation security, and security for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.


The meeting was positive and constructive. Both sides renewed their shared commitment to the existing strategic partnership on counterterrorism and continued cooperation to fighting terrorism and terrorist financing.
