From November 19 – 21, the 66th Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) convenes in Miami, Florida to further Western Hemispheric cooperation essential to combating illicit drugs and drug trafficking. Assistant Secretary for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Kirsten D. Madison will lead the U.S. delegation’s efforts to protect American citizens from the scourge of transnational crime and narcotics. The United States will serve as the chair of CICAD, prioritizing concrete action to tackle the most pressing counternarcotics challenges in the Western Hemisphere.
CICAD is the advisory body on drug control issues to the Organization of American States (OAS) and serves as a forum for OAS member states to counter the drug problem, including through the provision of technical assistance to increase countries’ capacity in the Western Hemisphere.
